Sway With Me

I've had the time of my life
No I never felt this way before
Yes I swear it's the truth
And I owe it all to you....

And many many more …….Ode to dance are many – feet up in the air, head thrown back, wind through the hair and the heart in full abandon. One of the purest form of blending with the universe is to dance..we dance for our dreams, for tears, for laughter , for fears and for love..but we love to dance . I love to dance and this is not just love that you feel when you listen to some jive in a dimly lit pub where music is grinding and your body automatically starts this maddening sway …though this is the most common form of dance socially available today (with all puns intended) its great to have the love for pure dancing back in our lives. People are learning to dance again; they dance for fun and as a means to relieve the minds of the terrible stress that overhauls all of us.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance. Socrates learned to dance when he was seventy because he felt that an essential part of himself had been neglected. Stifling an urge to dance is bad for your health – It rusts your spirit and your hips and makes you croak and groan with the stresses of life . Dancing takes away the toil from your body and mind and brings back poetry and music in each movement. Dance is a poem of which each movement is a word involving the complete aspects of academic, physical and aesthetic interrogation. It is all about distangling the pretensions of life and connecting every emotion with the fine thread of movement and purity of the soul. The mind gives a distinct task to each muscle and while the eye is confused the body senses the need to rebound from one action to the other. The blending of the music with the body renders the music to exist not just as strains from the instrument but as a composite whole to the dancer

Be it the tantalizing and sassy SALSA ,the fascinating TANGO, the smooth flow of BALLROOM , the resilient and graceful BALLET , the lyrical CLASSICAL ,the harlem shake, moon walking HIPHOP, the progressive gliding WALTZ, the swing style of JAZZ or the social and tribal FOLKS …each dance style has its unique play with music and motions of the limbs . Our much loved unique BOLLYWOOD dancing cannot be forgotten for its tremendous spirit, force and fluidity. It is truly elaborate and has made a special place for itself among the different dance styles in the world.

To think that I forgot our favourite BREAKDANCE…I owe my tennis elbow to one of those attempts at that with the boys in my class. While over the years I have progressed to less injurious dance styles, it’s a must for every girl out there!!!
